MUJERES CON VESTIDO: Oksana Maxwell

Desde hoy y en pequeñas series, quiero compartirles "Mujeres con vestidos" una colección de entrevistas en serie a mujeres de luz.

"De mujeres con vestidos"... Este es el nombre que le doy a un poemario en el que aún trabajo_ he venido regando algunos, que se me han escapado por entre los pliegues_.

La vida entre mujeres, y como mujeres es fuente de inspiración. La lucha diaria de ser mujer, la luz y la fuerza desde lo simple y cotidiano en esta ardua hazaña de vivir mujer.

Partiendo de la experiencia de ser mujer, una celebración constante, es de ahí de donde viene la recopilación de voces similares a las nuestras, y tan distintas como las ajenas. En fin, en algo nos vemos reflejadas, alguna siempre nos inspira y nos presta esa luz momentánea para seguir adelante.

Hoy les dejo la luz de Oksana Maxwell, la luz que capta el lente.

Y esta modelo si que tiene los vestidos bien puestos. Es una mujer emprendedora y conquistadora. Desde los catorce años figura frente a las cámaras.

Harán cinco años desde que Oksana se estableció en Europa. Y afirma que no es un cuento de hadas como parece que les sucede a muchos modelos. Ha trabajado por lo que tiene y lo que quiere. Y lo ha hecho desde diferentes países España, Francia, Italia, Noruega, Portugal y Alemania.

¿Y por qué dejar tu país de origen?

Porque en Costa Rica sencilla y desafortunadamente la industria del modelaje no existe. De ahí que: “para poder hacer arte y hacerlo una forma de vida hay que ponerse LOS VESTIDOS y emigrar”

¿Qué sigue constituyendo un reto para la mujer y para la modelo? Más aún: _como mujer el reto es conseguir ser escuchada y conseguir ser líder_. Que hay mucho más detrás del hecho de modelo _ que es todavía tabú en muchos entornos en los que se cree solo sirve para ser bella_.

Nuestra amiga en un buen ejemplo de que no es solamente belleza lo que la permite mantenerse en este medio; ella es graduada en Negocios Internacionales y obtuvo en Europa una maestría en Turismo Cultural y Gestión Cultural. Mantiene presente que se mueve en un ambiente altamente cambiante y exigente.

Tras la experiencia, su aguda percepción: Realmente para hacer una profesión del modelaje y poder perdurar en ella hay que prepararse, formarse y diversificarse en diferentes áreas. Es muy importante tanto para la comunicación, como para el aprendizaje cultural; el conocer diferentes idiomas, hay que incursionar en otros campos como: la fotografía, interpretación y actuación, publicidad, diseño, entre muchas cosas_ Oksana.

Oksana se define más que luz:
ella es confianza, pasión, alegría, optimismo...
las ganas mismas de vivir.

¿Cuál es tu postura, como mujer, en este medio a partir de tu profesión?

De una manera genuina, Oksana nos aclara que más que una postura es un deseo, el de poder servirles de ejemplo e inspiración a otras personas, poder transmitir ese mensaje auténtico y positivo. Consciente que "con la tecnología el mundo es muy pequeño y todos estamos conectados pero hay muchos mensajes vacíos y sin sentido".

Y afirma no creer que_ si el mundo lo liderara solo mujeres sería un lugar mejor_. Arraiga su convicción en el "sentido de colectividad y de apertura mental" -Por ser "el hombre complemento de la mujer y la mujer del hombre, en la posibilidad de actuar desde el propio ser y hacer el cambio con uno mismo, para poder actuar con otros y desde la propia localidad conseguir poco a poco un cambio".

¿Qué tal una sesión Oksana – ESEtsy?

Hay que organizar algo, con tantos productos creativos, y handcraft para la decoración de alguna locación o studio, está muy interesante el proyecto.

Indudablemente una mujer con vestidos, con toda la luz propia, con las ganas de triunfar y entregándose de lleno en lo que le gusta... Por lo que extiende un voto de confianza a las mujeres que nos aventuramos por caminos, carreras, ocupaciones y profesiones fuera de la norma. Reconoce que no hay fórmula mágica, pero que si se requiere de armarse de valor, perder el miedo, borrar barreras, hacerse de decisión y personalidad a prueba de momentos difíciles, que serán muchos.

We are starting our small series of interviews: “Women wearing dresses”. A collection of insightful conversation with bright and talented women.

"Women Wearing Dresses” named after my lastest work in progress, a collection of poems reflection life among women, depicting women as a source of inspiration. The daily struggle of being: woman, light, strength, the simple survival of a arduous and constant battle to live complete and woman.

Through this series of interviews we intent to share voices similar to yours, and as different at the same time. Our purpose is to find us in some one else, to inspire and to be inspired, to share the light and be that light, shining bright just long enough to get ahead, to see the ahead.

Today we leave you with the light that captures the lens: Oksana Maxwell.

And this model surely wears and owns the right set of dresses. She’s a hardworking women, and a conqueror. Oksana’s life in front of the camaras began at the early age of fourteen.

Now, is going to be five years since Oksana moved to Europe, and she assures us that: Is not a fairy tale life, like some models’ s life seems to be. She has work for what she has and continuous to work even harder for what she wants. Oksana has worked in many different European countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Germany.

And why leave your country?
Simple and sad, in Costa Rica, unfortunately the Fashion and Modeling Industry is non-existent. So, “to be able to make art, and to make it a lifestyle, you have to wear The Dresses and leave”

What remains a constant Challenger to the woman and to the model? Even now, as a woman the challenge is to get your voice to be heard, so you can be able to lead_ To show that there is more behind being a model, because nowadays, in some areas and social groups, where the misconception persists, and the taboo of those who believe that modeling is just being just a pretty face.

Our friend is more than a good example, that she is more than just a pretty. And she knows she needs to be more than beauty to hold her place is the Fashion and Modeling World. Oksana has a degree in International Business, and after moving to Europe she studied to get her a Masters in Cultural Tourism and Cultural Management. It never leaves her mind, that she lives in a constant changing, always demanding and highly challenging environment.

Behind the experience, her sharp perception Oksana shares some insight: Truly, to make a profession out of modeling and be able to remain in it, you have to be prepare, you have to study and must of all you have to be diverse and resourceful, have knowledge in numerous areas. Is crucial to have good communication skills, that will enable you to learn and interact across cultures. A knowledge of different languages, the interdisciplinary exposure in areas such as photography, acting, public speaking, design, to name a few.

Oksana defines herself as being

more than light: She is confidence, passion,

happiness, joy and optimism…

and the sheer desire to live.

From a social point, where do you stand, as a woman, in the modeling business?

Genuine and sincere answer Oksana wants to clarify that is more that her stand point, is her desire and motivation: to be and serve as an example to inspire people. She wants to be authentic and positive in her message. She bears in mind that “ with all the technology today the World is a smaller place, where everyone is connected, but they are so many messages empty and senseless”

She does not agree that: “if women were to lead the world, it would make the world a better place. But she is a strong supporter of having an open mind, and to be part of the collective contribution across genders. Because the man is the complementary element to the woman, and the woman of the man, both have the possibility to act from their being, to produce the change from within, to later on together act for the change in the locality, and in that way achieve a constant and positive change”.

What about a Photo Session with Oksana and ESEtsy?

We definitely have to organize something, with so many creative and innovative products, handcrafted and all. To decorate on location or in Studio, that will be an interesting project.

Undoubtedly a woman wearing dresses, shinning bright with her own light, with the drive to achieve, giving herself completely into what she loves doing… That is why she’s roaring, a casting a vote of confidence, for the women who adventure ourselves into the unconventional paths, into careers, occupations and professions out f the norm. She recognizes that there is no magic formula, but that it does require a full set of courage, a no fear attitude, a barrier free mind, and to have a set mind and a personality against difficult moments, because there will be plenty.

De mujeres con vestidos, esta serie de entrevistas por las que vamos conociendo y reconociendo el arte desde los vestidos. El arte que en sus destellos vislumbra mujeres. Mujeres que inspiran y en las que nos reconocemos: mujer. Mujeres que nos prestan la luz, para nuestras ventanas. Por lo que son y por lo que hacen, por ellas, volvemos a buscarlas para encontrarnos y compartir lo que han creado.

Women Wearing Dresses, a series of interviews. We want to share the art of women. We want you to meet their art and recognize yourself in they light. They are all women who inspired, women who share their light for us to shine. For what they are and what they have created, while being Women Wearing Dresses we share.

Desde el recuerdo la luz nos la pinta Rina Méndez con sus pinceles, en tinta, al acrílico, al óleo, en acuarelas, entre mujeres desde cualquier mar.

Rina existe desde las buenas memorias de un conservatorio. La vida le ha pasado, sin dejar de pintar y siempre es grato a mirar los colores con los que la cuenta.

From a distant memory comes Rina Mendez. With a set of paintbrushes, ink, acrylic and oil paints, watercolors about the human figure about the sea.

Rina is that good memory about art school. Life has passed by, and she keeps painting, it is always so rewarding to witness the colors by which she tales her life.

¿Cómo llega la inspiración, cuándo despierta esa luz, dónde habita el lado creativo de Rina?

La forma en que llega la inspiración para mí es todo un misterio. Puede llegar en cualquier momento o lugar. Tal vez con tan sólo el hecho de conectarme o sensibilizarme con un sentimiento o idea de un momento dado. Dibujar, pintar, crear o diseñar es la forma de expresar y decirle al mundo lo que siento.

How do you get inspired, when does the light shine brighter, where does Rina’s creative side reside?

How inspiration comes to me, it remains a mystery for me. It could be at any moment or at any place. Perhaps, the simple fact that, I get connected or get in-tune with a feeling or an idea, in a particular way. By drawing, painting, creating or designing, is the way to express, and to tale the world what am feeling.

No todos vemos, pocos encontramos lo que no se busca, y de esos momentos, y encuentros algunos hacen y logran arte. Y Rina como pocos logra ver, desde el movimiento descubre y plasma. Reconoce que:

El mar, la figura humana las formas fluidas y suaves, lo natural y lo fantástico, son mis temas por lo general. Me gusta que estos temas se presenten con un enfoque surrealista otras veces impresionista ya que puedo expresar más de esta manera.

Not all can see, some of us come to find what is not sought, and out of those moments, and findings a few create and achieve art. And, Rina is among the few who can see, who out of motion discovers and paints. She recognizes that:

It is the sea, the human figure, the fluid and smooth forms, the natural and fantastic, are generally my themes of choice. I like that these themes, because they can be worked sometimes from a surrealist perspective, and others in an impressionist style, though which I can always express more.

Trabaja libre sin seguir etapas. Rina nos comparte que: “El mar y su movimiento” suele ser tema recurrente en sus proyectos. “por el significado inconsciente que alberga hace conexión con lo que quiero transmitir”.
Her freestyles technique following no stages, no phases and no set standards. Rina shares with us that: “the sea, and its movement, and motion” happens to be her most frequent theme among her projects, “ for the deep and subconscious meaning within making the connection with what I want to transmit”

Sus materiales favoritos: “las acuarelas, el acrílico, los óleos, el grafito y la tinta porque me gusta detallar las cosas y con estos materiales puedo lograr el acabado que busco”.

Her working materials, among her favorites: “ watercolors, acrylic paints, oil paints, grafite, and ink, because I like to detailed and with these materials I can achieve the finish touch I look for”

Durante su proceso creativo Rina ha llegado ha encontrar el balance entre la artista y la mujer. Pues como ella lo expone:

“nuestra esencia como mujer se encuentra en nuestro interior. Muchas veces nos vemos abrumadas por todas las responsabilidades con las que nos encontramos día a día; y olvidamos quien realmente somos. Nuestra esencia siempre está ahí, solamente debemos hacer esa conexión, recordar quiénes somos y expresar lo que tenemos dentro.”
During her creative process Rina has achieved the balance among being the artist and the women. As she explains it: “ our essence as women lies within. Many times we fin ourselves overwhelmed by all the responsibilities that challenge us day by day; making us forget who we really are. Our essence is always there, within us. We only need to make that connection, remind ourselves who we are and express what lies within”

MUJERES CON VESTIDO: Ariadna Mateu

Qué sería de nuestro rumbo sin vestidos, sin el constante ingenio, y las buenas luces de las mujeres que crean, arman e inspiran. “De mujeres con vestidos” se viste de la luz y toda la posibilidad prismática, para colorear y llevar juntos unos cuantos detalles a nuestro rumbo y vestido. Hemos tropezado con unos cuantos colores e ingenio desde CorazóndeGalleta.
Corazón de Galleta es Ariadna Mateu, desde Barcelona a Etsy. Con ella colaboran su compañero Diego Paredes y su gata Neko.

What would our whereabouts be without dresses, without the constant genius, and the bright lights from the women who create, build and inspire. “Women Wearing Dresses” dresses-up with light and all the prismatic possibility, to color together a few details for our whereabouts and our dresses. We have stumble with a few colors and ingenuity from CorazóndeGalleta (roughly translate into cookieheart).

Corazón de Galleta is Ariadna Mateu, with Diego Paredes her boyfriend, and her cat Neko her always loyal contributors, from Barcelona to Etsy.

Fue el tener una niñez creativa que marcó el camino de esta mujer, ya que siempre se encontró armando, tejiendo, bordando, cosiendo para sus muñecas. “ mis hermanas y yo sabíamos coser casi antes de atarnos los zapatos. A los doce años ya había bordado una mantelería bordada, tejido varias bufandas, me hacía bolsos de ganchillo, joyitas de cuentas, vestidos para las muñecas… “Un día, de pequeña, me fabriqué un fantástico bolsito usando una caja de galletas para reforzarlo y conseguir darle la forma que quería”. Y con una visión a futuro Ariadna supo que “el día en que tuviese una tienda para vender sus cositas, se llamaría así: corazón de galleta. Y así ha sido hasta ahora, que me he animado a vender todas estas cositas que salen de mis manos.”

It was having a childhood filled with creativity which marked this woman’s road. She always found herself putting together, knitting, embroidering, sewing cloths for the dolls. “My sisters and I knew how to sew even before we learned how to tie our shoelaces. At twelve years old, I already had embroidered tablecloth sets, knitted a several scarves, crocheted purses, small beaded jewelry, and dress for my dolls. One day, as a little girl, I made myself a fantastic handbag using a box of cookies, to reinforce it and get it to shape the way I wanted.”
And a with a futuristic vision, Ariadna knew that “the day I have I store in where to sell my little stuff, it will be named that way: CorazóndeGalleta (cookie heart)” And it has been that way until now, that I have taken the chance, selling all the my little stuff that my hands create”

Con recuerdos de infancia, y olor a la caja de lápices de color Ariadna nos cuenta: “de pequeña vivíamos en una casa mágica en la que había una habitación para coser. Mi abuela daba clases de costura en esa habitación a las modistillas del pueblo, y me encantaba ese lugar lleno de cajones con tesoros: hilos, agujas, ovillos, botones, cremalleras, retales…

With childhood memories, and the scent of a colored pencil box, Ariadna tells us that:” as a child, we used to live in a magic home, with a sewing room. My grandmom taught sewing to the town’s seamstresses, and I loved that place full of boxes, and drawers with treasuries: threads, needles, skeins, buttons, zippers, and remnants.”

La inspiración detrás de los lapices de los collares

En cuanto a los collares de lápices, la inspiración vino de una de mis hermanas. Cuando yo era pequeña ella estudiaba sin parar para unas oposiciones: tenía unos libros enormes que a mí me parecían aburridísimos que se sabía casi de memoria, y en los que no quedaba casi nada por subrayar. Mi hermana guardó, y todavía guarda, todos los restos cansados de lápices que usó para aprobar ese examen, y a mí me encantaban esos lápices pequeñitos. Me hacían pensar en lo limpio que parece el aire al terminar una carrera, cuando poco a poco se va recobrando la respiración. Esos lapiceros lo dieron todo, y mi hermana les premió guardándolos como su mejor tesoro. Así que un día, mientras pensaba qué podría regalarle para su cumpleaños, se me ocurrió la idea de hacerle un collar con esos lapicitos… y así empecé a dibujar joyas de lápices para corazón de galleta.

The inspiration behind the colored pencil necklaces

About the pencil necklaces, the inspiration came out of one of my sisters. When I was small, she studied non-stop for tests. She had thick books that to me were just plain boring, and she knew almost by heart, with almost no space to underline one more word. My sister saved and still saves all the remaining tired pieces of pencils that she used to pass that test. I loved those small pencils. They made me think about the cleanliness that the air seems to have at the end of the semester, when you finish your major, when little by little your recover your breathing. Those pencils gave their all, and my sister rewarded them by saving them as her best and most precious treasure. So, one day, w I while thinking about what to give her as a birthday present. It occurred to me to make a necklace with those pencils. And that’s how I began drawing jewelry made of pencils for CorazóndeGalleta.

El ancla en la realidad y el vuelo a las nubes

Diego Paredes, el que habita en la tierra, es el ancla a la realidad, pues es “diseñador industrial y sus consejos son de lo más valioso en cuanto a terminaciones, materiales, seguridad, packaging”

Con las manos, la creatividad y el pensamiento en las nubes: Ariadna. Ella trabaja en una agencia de creativo publicitario. Y “vamos, que yo tengo ideas locas, empiezo a darles forma” Y con los pies en la tierra: Diego, “él se encarga de que estén bien terminados. Somos un muy buen equipo”.

The anchor to reality and the flight cloud bound

Diego Paredes, resides well grounded, he is the anchor to reality, “ being an industrial designer and his advices are most valuable with everything concerning product final touches, materials, security and packaging”.

With her hands, creativity and thoughts in a constant flight cloud bound: Ariadna. Uno nunca sabe de dónde viene la inspiración… soy de esas personas que no saben tirar nada, ya que todo, sea lo que sea, puede servir para otra cosa.

Suelo identificarme con todos mis proyectes, lo cierto es que pongo mucho de mí en cada uno de ellos ya que son mi vía de escape. Desde pequeña me distraigo haciendo cositas que me llevan a un mundo magnífico donde todo es bonito y simpático, y todavía no ha dejado de sorprenderme y maravillarme que otras personas lo aprecien. Agradezco mucho que exista un lugar como Etsy en el que poder compartir mis pequeñas creaciones.

We never know where our inspiration originates… I am one of those who, does not know how to through away anything, whatever it might be, because, be what it may, it can be use for something else. She identifies with all of her projects. For Ariadna all of her projects are an escape to a magnificent and beautiful world. Habrán mujeres con nombres que les resuman y les limiten las buenas luces. María Goti, es luz desde su nombre hasta el último eslabón de sus joyas inspirando e irradiando glamour, y las buenas luces: sin límite ni resumen.
There are women whose names summarize and limit their guiding lights. Maria Goti is sheer light, from her name to the very last of her jewelry’s link. A inspiring and beacon of glamour, her guiding light: knows no limits, and no short comings.


No es fortuito el arte y destreza de María Goti. Es talento a flor de piel, transformado y labrado en joyas únicas en su estilo desde la plata, el oro y las gemas.
This artful expression and creation is not a chance of destiny, is Maria’s dexterity. Talent is her only nature, which she shares by making one of a kind jewelry, using silver, gold and precious gemstones.

Formada en el Centro Europeo de Joyería y Gemología de la Universidad de Oviedo, España. En el cual curso estudios por un período de tres años.

Para María “hacer series limitadas o piezas one-of-a-kind le añade un plus al trabajo hecho a mano, ya que al final de cierta manera se convierte en exclusiva”.

Se define como una mujer que: “Tiene una mente muy inquieta”. Y bueno, ni que hablar de sus manos.

She is a graduate of the European Center for Jewelry and Gemology of the University of Oviedo, Spain. There, Maria studied various techniques during a three years period.

All of her creations are mind-blowing. This woman is absolutely the exception of every rule and norm within the genre she uses to create her jewelry collection.

For Maria “making limited series or one-of-a-kind pieces adds on a plus to the handmade creation, either way you’ll always get an exclusive piece”.

She defines herself as a woman who “has a very active mind”. Not to mention her hands.

desde que la dibujo, hasta que se convierte en realidad,
y todo eso, solo con las manos. Y aun mas,
cuando te gusta y gusta lo que haces”

“Is highly rewarding to look how a piece grows
from the sketch until it reaches the final result,

when what you love doing, is loved by others”

Desde ESEtsy y através de Mujeres con vestidos nos damos el lujo de compartir quien esta detrás de cada pieza de arte. Porque, como lo expone Maria Goti: “Etsy una plataforma con puerta al mercado internacional, permitiéndole a artistas como María llegar a lugar impensables con su arte y talento”, y aun así de algún modo sus creadores continúan figurando en lado oscuro.

Tal vez porque casi siempre conocemos primero los proyectos que a las manos que los forjan.
Maria says: “Etsy is the platform with an open door to the international market”, by allowing the artist like Maria, to reach out with their talent and art, places, otherwise unthinkable and unreachable. The art is well appreciated, although the artist/creator lies on a dim place. Perhaps we build the connection with what we see, the projects that we come across, later, if opportunity strikes we find and meet the artist.
