AUGUST BIRTHSTONE - PERIDOT

The peridot, a typically green gem, is the birthstone for August. Peridots are derived from the mineral olivine and are mined in several countries around the world and U.S. states. A symbol of nature and strength, the peridot was an important gem to the ancient Egyptians, who believed that it helped link them to nature.

Peridots are most often green, but they can range in color from a light yellow-green to a dark olive green.
